Pop-Up School Pictures a Success in Las Vegas!

Is it just me or are you also sick of Covid and how our normal traditions have been turned upside down? Well I’m here to tell you how I fought back and brought a little bit of normal to the kids in the Las Vegas Valley this school year.

One by one, the schools where I photograph modern school pictures closed their doors for the fall semester and cancelled our photo day. They had no choice, I know, but my heart just hurt for the kids who would be missing out on even more of their daily routines. I wanted to provide some normalcy for them.

I researched all the covid and social-distancing protocol and found I could hold pop-up school portrait sessions for the kids and their families. In collaborating with some friends, I found private property where I could hold outdoor sessions, 2-3 minutes long, and maintain strict covid protocol.

I held Pop-Up School Portraits in the fall of 2020 and spring 2021. I sent out emails to previous school photo customers and my available dates were booked within hours.

I was able to set up the backdrops and keep at least 8’ away from the students at all times. Fortunately, I have wonderful 70-200 f/2.8 lens which allows me to be further away from the students, yet capture sharp images with wonderful compression. Masks were worn, areas were cleaned between students, who were scheduled 10-15 minutes apart, all protocols followed. I had the kids mirror my poses and it all worked out great!

I offer a modern twist on the traditional school portrait by offering multiple poses as well as black and white photos. I sometimes call these ‘better than school portraits’! I believe parents should see the school portraits before purchasing, so no prepayment here!

Parents, students, and school administrators thanked me for offering these opportunities for school photos for their children. Honestly, I was the one who was blessed!

I love being a school photographer here in Nevada. I service the Las Vegas valley, Elko, Ely, and small towns in between. I’d love to talk to you about working with your school!
